When someone has been a victim of crime, they are suddenly faced with navigating an unfamiliar criminal justice system because of circumstances outside their control. Victim-Witness Programs were created in response to this need for crisis intervention and advocacy on behalf of victims, witnesses, and survivors of violent crimes. Coordinators accompany victims to court; provide notification of significant court events; refer to appropriate support services; help determine and request restitution and the return of property; and provide information about conviction, sentencing, imprisonment, and release of the offender (Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, 2017).

At Faces of Hope Victim Center, Coordinators from each of the agencies collaborate with our Victim Service Advocates, on a daily basis, to provide crisis services for victims, during the initial days following trauma. Boise Police Department has six Coordinators who are permanently located onsite at our Center. Then, Coordinators from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Police, and Garden City Police regularly come to the Center to meet with those individuals and families, whom they are serving.

We affectionately call Coordinators “VWCs” (pronounced V-Dubs). Ada County Prosecutor’s Office proudly hold that their Coordinators “are committed to ensuring that victims are treated with fairness and respect and that victims receive information and assistance for relevant services.” And we’ve seen it firsthand at the Center! Ada County Sheriff’s Office agrees: “[Our coordinators] feel strongly about preserving the dignity of victims and strive to treat them with compassion and respect as they go through an often emotional or intense situation.”
